This weekend I was able to make some progress on the backdrops. I use 1/8″ hardboard. I have found that the product carried at my local Lowes is no where near as flexible as the product carried at Home Depot. The Lowe’s product is tempered on both sides and the HD product is only tempered on one side. The HD product is much better for bending into corners without losing your sanity. The two pictures below are on the side of the peninsula with the yet unnamed lumber camp. Anyone have any great ideas for names? I have thought of following West Side practices with something like Camp 8 but it lacks pizzaz compared to something like Two Tanks Camp or Rattlesnake Gulch Camp. The new bench work section to the right will continue around to the right and up to the second also unnamed logging camp. I dropped the benchwork to make room for a nice canyon and trestle. You can also see the profile board that I attached. It really helps to make it look a little more finished in a short period of time.
Here is the town side with the backdrop in place:
In hindsight, the opening in the curve of the backdrop was a terrible mistake. It is literally impossible to cut that opening either before or after installation and not have the backdrop crack. The reason the opening is there is to allow for continuous running which was very important to me in order to be able to just relax and watch the trains run as well as entertain the casual visitor.
As you can tell by the pictures, I did not finish the room first. For my purposes it is just fine and I could not justify the extra investment and time at this point.
