I just cut them to fit after I attached the legs to the benchwork and the horizontal brace was attached as well. It is not a critical dimension.

Sorry another follow-up questions. The Diagonal 1×2 how long did you make them 32″?

The other layouts were intended to potentially be moveable. I would usually use two 5/16″ bolts per each 2×4 leg. I don’t plan on trying to move this one so glued and screwed.

This time I just screwed the legs to the frame. I have done both in the past but in this case I just did screws.

What did you use to attach the legs to the bench work? Bolts or screws?
